Berawa

The villa is in Berawa, the stretch of Canggu between Seminyak and Batu Bolong. It is the part of the area where the rice fields have not entirely given way to development yet: a few minutes in one direction takes you to the beach, a few minutes in the other to quiet lanes between the paddies.

Almost everything you need day to day is within walking or scooter distance — bakeries, coffee places, warungs, restaurants, a gym, a supermarket and a handful of the best-known beach clubs on the island.

The beach

Berawa Beach is a broad, dark-sand surf beach about five minutes from the villa. There is a steady swell most of the year, which makes it a good place to learn to surf and a spectacular one to sit and watch the sun go down; board rental and lessons are easy to arrange on the beach itself. Because of the current it is a surf beach rather than a swimming beach — for swimming, the villa has its own pool.

Walk or ride north along the coast and you reach Batu Bolong and Echo Beach, with more warungs, surf shops and sunset bars.

FINNS Beach Club

FINNS sits on the beach at Berawa, a few minutes from the villa, and it is the best-known beach club on this stretch of coast: pools, restaurants, bars and a long row of cabanas looking out over the surf.

Four FINNS Beach VIP Cards come with the villa. They give you priority access and the right to reserve a cabana with no minimum spend — which, on a busy day in high season, is the difference between queueing at the gate and walking straight to a reserved daybed.

Eating and drinking

Canggu has an unusually dense concentration of good food for its size, and most of it is a short ride away: Indonesian warungs, seafood grills, Japanese, Italian, and a long list of cafés that take their coffee seriously. The beach clubs along Berawa and Batu Bolong run from very relaxed to very loud, so there is something for a quiet lunch as well as for a long afternoon.

Further afield

Seminyak

Around 15–20 minutes south: boutiques, spas and a denser restaurant scene.

Tanah Lot

The sea temple on its rock, roughly 30–40 minutes up the coast, and one of the best sunsets on the island.

Ubud

About 1–1½ hours inland: rice terraces, temples, the monkey forest and the craft villages along the way.

Uluwatu

Roughly an hour south, for the cliffs, the temple and the big surf breaks of the Bukit peninsula.

Rice fields

The lanes behind Berawa and Tibubeneng still run between working paddies — the easiest walk or cycle straight from the villa.

Airport

Ngurah Rai International is about 45–60 minutes away, depending on the traffic.
